There are 3 types of Extended Auto Warranties available on the market:
- Full Coverage - a.k.a. Named Exclusion Coverage
Covers all mechanical breakdowns with the exception of a few maintenance items (i.e. tune-ups, wheel balancing, fluids…). Covers approximately 12,000 to 14,000 parts on a car.
- Named Component Coverage
(Typically offered by dealerships.)
Covers approximately 700 to 1,000 parts on a car. Parts covered are listed on the product brochure.
- Limited Powertrain Warranty - 10 Year/100,000 Mile Warranty
Covers only specific parts of the power train. Primarily transmission. This is commonly mistaken as full coverage and is typically available with Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
Credit Unions often offer Full Coverage and Named Component Coverage through a qualified insurance provider and save the credit union member as much as 50%.
